New Dimensions in Learning Spring 2008 Tutor Training Schedule

Master Tutor Training
Sunday, February 10, 2 – 5 p.m.
S401 Pappajohn Business Building

Tutors are required to complete Master Tutor Training within one year of being hired. This is a general information training session. We will cover the tutoring cycle, cultural competence, as well as other topics important to new tutors. If you are unable to attend, please let Brooke know to set up an alternative time.

Group Tutoring Techniques
Sunday, February 10, 5:00-5:50 p.m.

This interactive workshop will focus on strategies for working with groups of students in a tutoring session.  It will focus on how to identify opportunities for students to interact and maximize those opportunities.

Strategies for Math Tutors
Dr. Cos Fi
Friday, March 7, 2:30-3:20 p.m.

This interactive workshop will focus on strategies specific for tutoring math.  Dr. Cos Fi is an Assistant Professor at Iowa and was once one of our undergraduate tutors.

Memory and Learning
Tuesday, March 25, 12:30-1:20 p.m.

Dr. Helen Brady will lead this session, focusing on how tutors can help tutees with memory techniques and strategies.  In this interactive workshop, tutors will learn to identify when these techniques would be useful and how to implement them with students.

This interactive workshop will focus on strategies specific for tutoring science courses.  Dr. Vincent Rodgers is a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
